Dogs That Don’t Shed

Non-Shedding Dogs

Are you thinking about getting a new puppy, but you are allergic to dogs?  If so, there is a solution to your problem!  There are many people that are hypersensitive to allergens that can trigger allergic reactions.  A dog’s saliva, urine, and pet dander are all allergens that can trigger allergic reactions.  But, there are dog breeds that don’t shed and are less likely to cause an allergic reaction.  When I say non-shedding dogs I should really say dogs that don’t shed much because unfortunately, their is no such thing as a dog that doesn’t shed or a non-shedding dog.

Dogs that are non-shedders are known as hypo-allergenic dogs.  Most non-shedding dogs have a single coat layer.  Not only are they less likely to cause an allergic reaction but they shed less hair.  If you don’t like cleaning up dog hair all the time and/or you are allergic to dogs a hypo-allergenic dog might just be the right dog for you.

The following is a list of 10 non-shedding dogs, pictures of each, and their features to help you decide what breed would be the best for you!

Yorkshire Terrier1.  Yorkshire Terrier:

Also called Yorkies, they are small dogs with big personalities.  Their coats are long and luxurious but they shed very little.  They require regular grooming and brushing.  They are very outgoing, very sociable, alert, and territorial.  They make dependable watch dogs because they will bark loudly at intruders or even the smallest sign of danger.

Dachshund2.  Dachshund:

Dachshunds have big drooping ears, long “sausage” bodies, short legs and warm intelligent eyes.  They have three different coat types–short or smooth haired, long haired, and wirehaired.  They can make good watchdogs.  They love to be around people but they don’t tolerate small children well.  Long-haired Dachshunds may shed but the short and wirehaired don’t shed as much.

3.  Poodle:

They can have curly or corded dense coats.  They shed very little which makes them great pets for those with allergies.  They don’t need to be groomed regularly.  Poodles get along well with children.  They are affectionate, loving, alert and make excellent watchdogs.

Shih Tzu4.  Shih Tzu:
