Using Coupons

Do you like to save money?  I do and I am always looking for ways to save a little cash here and a little there!  Using coupons and looking for bargains isn’t something I have always done but it is something that I have started doing more and more.  With two kids in college, it has become essential that we look for ways to minimize our expenses.

One way that I have found to cut down on expenses is with dog food and dog treats.  Our four dogs eat a lot of both so it helps our budget when I can find bargains on these items and use coupons and rewards programs.

I became a member of PetCo’s rewards program about a year ago.  For every $100 I spend, I earn 5 reward dollars.  This is a great way to save some extra cash!   It is easy for me to spend $100 on dog food and treats in one visit to PetCo, so using their rewards program is a no brainer for me!

I also look for coupons in the Sunday paper.  I can usually find coupons for both dog food and dog treats.  The four major coupon inserts that I look for are:

  • General Mills (GM)
  • Proctor & Gamble (P&G)
  • Red Plum (RP)
  • SmartSource (SS)

The best newspapers to check for coupon inserts are usually in larger cities and metropolitan areas.  If you live in a smaller town, it’s a good idea to check out the newspapers in larger towns that are near you.  By doing this, you can see which newspapers have the better coupon inserts and get those newspapers.

You can also find coupons for dog food and dog treats on the internet.  Hill’s Science Diet offers rebates every so often on small bags of dog food.  If you use these rebates, you can get a free bag of dog food and let’s be honest…freebies are the best!  A couple of internet sites that I use to get information on coupons, bargains, giveaways and sweepstakes are Woof Woof Mama and Hip2Save.  These are two great sites that have lots of good information.

There are all kinds of different ways to get good deals on dog food and dog treats.  If you don’t have a pet at home or you don’t want to feed them the food that you can get with coupons, you might want to consider getting the food anyway, especially if it is free food.  You can donate the food to your local animal shelter or rescue.  What a great way to help all those pets that are looking for forever homes!

There are more and more homeless pets each day and if you could help by donating food and treats that you get with coupons or rebates, then why not?  If you haven’t started clipping coupons and using rewards programs and rebates, isn’t it about time you did?  It could help ease the burden on your pocketbook and it could help shelters and rescues feed homeless pets.  After all, saving a little bit of money and helping others in need is what it is all about.  Isn’t it?

Since we are talking about coupons, rebates and freebies…don’t forget to enter our treat giveaway!  Today is the last day to enter!  Go here to enter.
