About Diamond Naturals

Diamond Naturals is one line of recipes under the larger company umbrella of Diamond Pet Foods. They are marketed as a high-quality, yet affordable product that features whole meat as the first or second ingredient.

The company’s beginnings started back in 1970 when they were only operating a mill in Missouri under the name Meta Feed and Grain. But as the business grew in the early 1990s, they started to expand into what is now one of the largest pet food manufacturers in the US. According to rumors, Diamond Pet Foods got the name when a hunter claimed that the dog food made his canine “shine like a diamond.”

Today, they are beloved by pets, breeders, trainers, and pet owners around the world. At their core, the company is still family-owned; that’s why their priority is to treat cats and dogs like family by feeding them holistic, premium, nutritional food.

Every formula is made in the US with ingredients of exceptional quality that have optimal nutrition. They are carefully selected by vetted suppliers for quality, safety, and control.

Using a team of experts and scientists, Diamond commits to meeting the dietary needs of every pet.

Their dog food is divided into three recipe lines: Diamond, Diamond Naturals, and Diamond Naturals Grain-Free. Most of their product compositions are either dry kibble or canned wet food. They have formulas that are made for puppies, adult dogs, maintenance, and performance.

“I have 5 Dogs the oldest is 4 the two youngest are 1. The oldest has always been the pickiest and wouldn’t eat the previous food which was Taste Of The Wild, which was also SUPER expensive. We switched to this brand and not only will they all eat it, and actually like it, but it’s also a bit cheaper for a lot of food.”

“…Diamond Naturals is what our breeder recommended and we have been using it for 3 years now. Our English Springer Spaniel loves this food. Thank you for the wonderful service that you offer.”

We actually prefer Diamond’s wet dog food more than it’s dry food. This is because in their wet food the first ingredient is beef, not beef meal. Diamond has made this wet dog food with a holistic approach, using good quality meat, field vegetables, and superfoods. Which provide valuable vitamins and minerals, as well as antioxidant properties.

This wet food is higher than the industry average of 8.6% protein for wet food, coming in at 9.5%, so Diamond isn’t cutting corners with its protein content. A nice touch is the prebiotic fiber and nutrients including pumpkin, cranberries, quinoa, and blueberries. I think most hipsters would even eat this mix!

Customer reviews:

“Our rescue Terrier is super finicky and our Shih Tzu has chicken allergies. Diamond Naturals Lamb or Beef are fantastic options for them. It’s getting difficult to find and that concerns me. Both lamb and now beef have been out of stock for weeks.”

“My dogs love this. I do wish they had more flavors because I’m sure my dogs will get sick of it soon enough. Kind of like us humans get bored of the same foods over and over.”

Diamond Pet Food has recalled some of its products a few times in the last two decades. Below is a brief overview of their recall history starting from the most recent.

2013

The FDA recalled some samples and bags of Diamond Naturals Kitten Formula due to low levels of thiamine.

2012

There were a couple of recalls this year. The first in April 2012 affected a large amount of Diamond’s dry dog food formulas due to potential salmonella contamination. The next recall happened in May due to potential salmonella contamination as well. It affected a large number of varieties and sizes of Diamond and Diamond Naturals pet food products.

2005

In December this year, a number of Diamond’s products were recalled due to potential aflatoxin contamination of five Diamond brand dog food formulas and two cat food formulas.
